ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP®), COLLEGE LEVEL EXAM PROGRAM (CLEP®), DSST® and International
Baccalaureate (IB®)
Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Exam Program (CLEP), DSST and International
Baccalaureate (IB) programs offer students an opportunity to receive college credit
through exam-based programs. Scores from these exams must be sent to IVCC Office of Records and Registration for credit evaluation. Please review the IVCC AP/CLEP Acceptance Guide to learn about exam credit accepted by IVCC for CLEP and AP. Please see an IVCC
counselor for information on accepted DSST credits. Please also note that IVCC accepts
only certain exams and limited credit hours by exam. Students wanting to take any
credit exam should verify acceptance of exam in advance.
Advanced Placement is college level courses and exams that are administered in high
schools. Contact your high school guidance counselor to find out what AP options are
available at your school. Refer to the IVCC AP/CLEP Acceptance Guide to learn about which scores will allow credit for you.
For AP credit, official score reports should be sent directly from The College Board
to IVCC. Students can indicate IVCC as a school to get the report when they take
the test or they can contact College Board to have a score report sent. The score
report is reviewed in accordance with what IVCC's website lists as the recommended
minimum scores on particular tests and what course(s) to grant credit for the score.
A minimum score of 3 is needed on all exams for any credit. A grade of P (Pass) is
issued for the credit granted. Once credit is granted, student is notified of the
course(s) they are receiving credit for based on AP scores.
CLEP Examinations give motivated students the opportunity to earn college credits
for prior knowledge in certain subject areas by taking an exam in that area. IVCC
is an open CLEP testing center, which means we can administer all the CLEP exams offered
and can proctor for all students and community members. IVCC only accepts the certain
CLEP exams for credit. To learn more about which exams are accepted by IVCC, take
a look at the IVCC AP/CLEP Acceptance Guide.
