Colin Krug signs to IVCC tennis squad
LaSalle-Peru Township High School graduate Colin Krug has signed with Illinois Valley Community College to play men’s tennis as an Eagle.
Krug placed 2nd in the conference tournament at No.2 doubles, and finished the regular season with a conference record of 5-9 and a doubles record of 16-9 his senior year. He earned a place on the all-conference team his senior year and placed on the all-conference academic team his junior and senior years.
Krug’s tennis career began when he was a high school freshman and was encouraged to try out for the team. He said he’s proud how he and the team worked and improved over the next four years.
“The first year, I was just trying to make the starting lineup and then worked hard to be up with the really great players,” Krug said. Now he looks forward to matching wits and skills with the other college talents he’ll face in the team schedule.
He’s a strong net player and enjoys playing doubles for the strategies it requires. “I like working with a partner; you can lift each other up.”
“I’ve had the pleasure of watching Colin play tennis the last two years. He plays with heart and determination. He is also a great student! We’re lucky to have him aboard,” said Men’s Tennis Coach Julie Milota.
Krug, who’s enrolled as a physical education major, is from LaSalle. He’s the son of Rachel Balestri and Jeremy Krug.
