August 2016 Board Report
Nearly 40 men and women will participate in the historic first season of Illinois Valley Community College soccer this fall, board members learned Thursday.
IVCC President Jerry Corcoran said 39 full-time student athletes are expected to play.
“Adding men’s and women’s soccer has been well received by the community and our coaches Tim Cottingim (men) and Ed Young (women) are off to a great start,” said Corcoran, adding, “The City of LaSalle is proud that home games will be played at beautiful LaSalle Rotary Club Park.”
The men’s first home match is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23 vs. Madison while the women’s home opener is 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 vs. Elgin. The women will prep for the regular season by scrimmaging Heartland at home at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.
The women play five of their 12 matches at home while the men play seven of their 16 matches at Rotary Park.
“When we first considered adding soccer to our other eight intercollegiate sports, we were optimistic students would enthusiastically welcome the opportunity to continue playing a game they love,” said Corcoran. “The response from student athletes and the community has exceeded all our expectations.”
