Demonica Kemper Architects (DKA) of Chicago is Illinois Valley Community College’s new architect following board action Thursday night.
“IVCC has worked with DKA or one of their principals, Dominick Demonica, since 2006,” said President Jerry Corcoran who also noted the firm works with 21 other Illinois community colleges.
While with Legat Architects, Demonica developed IVCC’s master plan in 2006 and was involved in its 2011 update. DKA was the design architect for the Peter Miller Community Technology Center.
The board also approved:
Seeking proposals for a health insurance consultant. For the past 12 years, IVCC has been a member of the Community College Insurance Cooperative with Benefit Administrative Systems (BAS) as the third-party administrator for its employee medical, dental and vision insurance.
Purchasing 14 laptops and 94 desktops from Dell for $75,015 for student labs.
Bids totaling $152,000 from Vissering Construction of Streator for exterior door replacement.
Awarding a three-year food service contract to Country Catering of Lostant. Vice President for Business Services and Finance Cheryl Roelfsema credited Country Catering for providing five years of excellent service, menu variety and the ability to cater large and small events.

Gina Czubachowski has been hired as a business specialist in the Small Business Development Center. Czubachowski, who has an MBA and bachelors in finance from Illinois State University and an associates from IVCC, was the interim business specialist.
Aseret Gonzalez has been hired as assistant director of admissions, records and transfer services. Gonzalez returns to IVCC after working three years in admissions at Eastern Illinois University. She has a master’s and bachelors from EIU and an associate’s from IVCC.
Theatre technical director Jenna Stinson announced she will resign July 24 after five years at the college. Part-time Ottawa Center CNA instructor Monica Ponder also announced her resignation as did part-time assessment center assistant Beth Hickey.
Approximately 230 students from Hall, La Salle-Peru, Marquette, Princeton, St. Bede and Serena toured the natural science and cadaver labs this spring.
“’70s Night” at Senica’s Oak Ridge on April 10 raised $14,500 for the IVCC Foundation.
The annual employee recognition event April 24 at Grand Bear Lodge honored 98 workers for years of service, tenure appointments, retirement and outstanding teaching and service.
Students Ashley Williams of Ottawa and Tiernan Ebener of Peru were honored April 28 in Springfield at the annual Phi Theta Kappa banquet. Williams was one of the evening’s featured speakers.
On April 29, Ebener and student trustee Amy Rogowski of La Salle were among 12 students to visit with State Sen. Sue Rezin and State Rep. Frank Mautino in Springfield as part of Lobby Day.
The May 13 Project Success year-end celebration featured returning alumni who told their success stories.
This spring, IVCC accounting students participating in the United Way of Eastern LaSalle County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, helped the program serve 567 individuals at various sites including 88 at the IVCC Ottawa Center.
A recent “Etiquette Dinner” in the Peter Miller Community Technology Center attracted 24 students.
The baseball team will play Joliet in a best-of-three series in Schaumberg this weekend for the right play in the eight-team NJCAA Division III World Series May 23 in Kinston, N.C. Jason Goode’s team is 33-17.
Softball recently concluded a 22-win season.
A total of 68 RN graduates are expected to participate in the annual Nurse Pinning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16 in the Cultural Centre.
The 49th annual commencement at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, in the gym will feature a keynote address by former Lt. Governor Sheila Simon. GED graduation is at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Cultural Centre.
With the beginning of summer school Monday, IVCC will be a smoke-free campus for the first time.
