November 2011 Board Report
The Illinois Valley Community College board Tuesday approved a tentative tax levy that should result in a slightly lower tax rate than 2010.
The tax rate, projected to be 34.63 cents per $100 of EAV, is .49 cents, or 1.4 percent below last year’s actual rate of 35.12 cents. IVCC’s administration predicts a one percent increase in EAV for tax year 2011.
Because the tentative levy is less than 105 percent of last year’s extension, a public hearing is not required. The board will formally adopt the levy Dec . 20.
In other action, following closed session, the board approved naming the Community Technology Center the Peter Miller Community Technology Center. The action followed a $1 million pledge from Miller Group Charitable Trust for naming purposes.
Specifically, the board accepted the gift “for Community Technology Center enhancements provided the (CTC) be named the Peter Miller Community Technology Center.”
The gift and details of a $2.1 million capital campaign for the CTC were announced in a ceremony preceding the board meeting.
The board also approved the $11,362 bid of H & H Builders of Mendota to repair the Fireplace Lounge deck and authorized the purchase of a 2012 Ford F-150 truck through the Illinois Joint Purchasing Program at a cost of $16,660.
