April 2007 Board Meeting Report

On Wednesday night, the Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees approved a new certificate in Entrepreneurship. The 24 credit hour certificate will include courses in accounting, communication, business, management, finance, computers and marketing. Entrepreneurship is designed to aid in economic development, revitalize depressed economic areas, provide technology advances and product and service evolution which in turn stimulates economic growth.

Cory Tomasson, coordinator of student activities offered a presentation to the board on the IVCC Student Activities Department including a brief overview of each student organization. There are currently 27 campus organizations at IVCC and the activities are funded through a portion of the college’s General Activity fee. Each organization is composed of a membership of a minimum of ten students with a faculty or staff advisor and must submit an annual budget proposal which summarizes the previous year’s activities and the next year’s plan. The organizations fall into the following general categories: academically based, honors based, culturally and socially based, recreationally based, campus service and governance.

In other action the board authorized the business office:

  • To seek bids for upgrades to buildings five and ten for the installation of aluminum siding, soffits, and fascia, and window and gutter replacements at an estimated cost of $65,000.
  • To purchase 999 square yards of Lees Carpets at the cost of $24,995 though the Illinois Community College System Procurement Consortium and to seek bids for the installation of the carpeting at an estimated cost of $11,000.

The board approved:

  • The intergovernmental agreement with the city of Streator for the creation of TIF District II.
  • The purchase of 42 monitors from PCMall Gov, Inc. in the amount of $5,879 and 85 computers from Dell in the amount of $84,339.
  • The purchase of 16 HP 4250TN laser printers from Insight Public Sector, Inc. in the amount of $22,984.
  • The purchase of 646 classroom desks and chairs through the U.S. Communities Purchasing Alliance for seventeen classrooms at total of $67,933.
  • The purchase of 108 stools for the biology lab through the U.S. Communities Purchasing Alliance for $10,677.
  • The stipends for pay period ending March 10 and 24 and April 7.
  • May 9 at 5:30 p.m. for the board reorganization meeting.
