Edible Car Contest results
Junior high competitors packed the leader board in all speed trials and captured several special category trophies at Illinois Valley Community College’s annual Edible Car Contest recently.
A record-setting crowd of 190 students and their teachers gathered in the College cafeteria to watch the speed trials and enjoy pizza. Trophies and medals were awarded in categories such as Best Overall, Creativity, Detail, Most Nutritious, Sweetest, Design and Speed.
Spring Valley JFK, Putnam County Junior High, Oglesby Washington, and Princeton Christian Academy earned the top three places in the speed category. Putnam County and Oglesby Washington tied for second place.
Depue High School swept second and third place for Best Overall (High School), with Ottawa High School taking the top spot in that category.
JFK swept second and third place in Best Overall (Junior High), with Waltham claiming the top spot in that category.
Faculty or staff vehicles from La Moille Junior High, La Salle Peru Area Career Center and IVCC’s Cyber Cafe claimed the top three medals in the Best Overall staff category, while the IVCC Art Club and IVCC Student Services claimed first and second places, respectively, in the student organization category.
Twelve of the 18 special designation trophies went to junior high teams.
First-, second-, and third-place winners were as follows:
Creativity – Ottawa High School, Putnam County Junior High, and Princeton Christian Academy
Detail – Putnam County Junior High, Trinity Catholic Academy, and JFK
Most Nutritious – Ottawa High School, JFK, and Putnam County Junior High
Sweetest – IVCC Art Club, Waltham, and Putnam County Junior High
Judges’ Call – Ottawa High School, La Salle Peru Area Career Center, and La Moille Faculty entry.
Design – Trinity Catholic Academy, Waltham, and Putnam County Junior High.
Eighty vehicles were road-tested on the downhill track and displayed. Participating schools included Spring Valley JFK, Trinity Catholic Academy, La Moille Junior High, Waltham, Princeton Christian Academy, Oglesby Washington, Putnam County Junior High, and La Salle-Peru, Depue, and Ottawa high schools. Two IVCC student organizations and faculty or staff from IVCC and area schools also participated.
