IVCC commemorates Black History Month in February
February marks the return of music historian David DJ Lee to campus as Illinois Valley Community College marks Black History Month with a series of activities over the next few weeks.
Lee explores hip hop and rap music’s evolution. Also known as Rockababyrock, Lee is a beatboxer, singer, songwriter, and producer from Nashville, Tn., who tours as a solo artist.
Activities are as follows:
Wednesday, Feb. 7 – “Evolution of Hip Hop and Rap” at noon in Student Life Space.
Wednesday, Feb. 14 -- “Heart of Change: Finding Your Purpose” at noon in Jacobs Library. Brown-bag discussion of the One Book One College 2023-24 selection “Parable of the Sower” by Octavia Butler. Free copies of the book are available at the library. Bring a brown-bag lunch.
Monday, Feb. 26 -- “Navigating the Bases of Race/Racism in Baseball” presented by Professor Jeff Fesperman at noon in CTC 124. Free pizza will be available.
Events last about an hour each and are free and open to students, employees, and the community.
