IVCC Offers Food Service Sanitation
Illinois Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center offers Food Service Sanitation Certification classes from 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 6-15 at the IVCC Ottawa Center.
The food service sanitation classes are designed to assist the manager or potential manager in applying sanitation principles in food service establishments. Students learn to identify the causes of food-borne illness, identify and apply procedures for cleaning and sanitizing, recognize problems and potential solutions associated with facility, equipment and layout.
At the end of the classes, students will take the national ServSafe Protection Food Manager Certification exam in class. These classes are required in Illinois for Certified Food Protection Manager Certification and is an American National Standards Institute certified course accepted by the Illinois Department of Public Health. With successful completion and a passing grade students will attain the ServSafe CFPM license valid for five years.
Cost is $130. The textbook, ServSafe Manager, 7th Edition, is available for purchase online at ivcc.ecampus.com. Due to the fast-paced nature of the class, students should purchase the book in advance and begin review prior to class.
