'One Book' discussion of Maid begins Wednesday at noon
The first of three on-campus discussions about the book, “Maid,” covering chapters 1-10, will be in Illinois Valley Community College’s Jacobs Library from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15.
The event is part of the One Book One College program bringing together a diverse population to discuss, inform, and learn from a shared reading experience.
Conversation will be facilitated by Heather Steele, IVCC’s Safe Journeys campus representative. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch.
“Maid,” by Stephanie Land, is about a young college-bound woman who faces abuse, loneliness, pregnancy, motherhood, and poverty in her journey to earn her college degree.
The program is geared toward the community, and as such all students, faculty, staff, and district residents are welcome to join the conversation. Copies of the book will be available at the events.
