IVCC Has Openings in Psychology, Philosophy and Speech
Illinois Valley Community College has openings in psychology, philosophy and speech classes for the fall semester.
In most fields, employers are looking to fill positions with adults who possess strong communication skills. Employees who have the ability to logically reason and use critical thinking skills stand out in an interview. Speech, psychology and philosophy are classes that are designed to help strengthen skill acquisition.
There really isn’t a required undergraduate major for students going on to law school. It may come as a surprise to most students, but philosophy, psychology and speech are great majors for someone considering a career in the legal field. Philosophy challenges a student to in-depth thinking and reasoning. A student studying ethics and logic sharpens their analytical and critical thinking skills. Psychology also offers the aspect of critical thinking skill acquisition and serves to sharpen active listening skills and research. Speech emphasizes the importance of oral communication. It is necessary that anyone going into the legal field have the ability to speak clearly, concisely and be persuasive in their approach.
“IVCC has such a variety of course offerings that lend themselves to career exploration. It’s an amazing gift as a college counselor to sit with a student and see a subject area resonate with them for the first time in their lives. To witness that first spark of interest and have the ability to fan the flame, direct students to a career path and set them on the trajectory is one of the things I like the most about career counseling,” said IVCC Counselor Valery Calvetti.
Fall classes begin at IVCC on Wednesday, Aug. 16 and registration is currently underway. Phone 815.224.0447.
