Criminal Justice Classes
If you’ve ever been pulled over to the side of the road by a police officer in the Illinois Valley Area your odds are fairly strong that the officer is an Illinois Valley Community College graduate.
IVCC offers degrees in criminal justice starting this fall for those with an interest in law enforcement.
“The assumption may be made that a career in criminal justice leads to working as a city police officer when in fact sometimes that couldn’t be further from the actual experience. Police officers are present and viable in our local community, but at the same time the field is so broad and many career opportunities exist beyond even in local law enforcement. For some of those careers you may never even sit behind the wheel of a squad car. Careers in criminal justice are changing and expanding rapidly and positions exist in criminal profiling, investigation, forensics, victims advocate, corrections, parole, homeland security, judges, lawyers, air marshals, and a variety of entry level positions. Whether your interest is patrolling, investigating or behind a microscope, IVCC is a great place to start your journey into the vast and exciting field of criminal justice,” said Vice-President for Student Services Mark Grzybowski.
Classes in Criminal Justice at IVCC include: Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Forensic Science, Juvenile Delinquency, Corrections in America, Policing in America, Criminal Investigation and Evidence and Criminal Procedures. A limited number of seats remain in Legal Environment of the Business, taught online by IVCC Professor and Attorney Vince Brolley.
IVCC has classes online and in-person Classes begin on Aug. 16 and fall registration is underway at (815) 224-0447 or www.ivcc.edu/register.
