Dual credit placement options for IVCC English, Science, and Math classes

ACT/SAT/PSAT: Dual credit students may use official ACT, SAT, and PSAT scores for course placement. If using PSAT scores, you will be required to provide a copy of your PSAT scores report. When taking the ACT or SAT, be sure to select IVCC to receive your scores: SAT code: 1397; ACT code: 1056. Official scores must be on file with the college prior to registration.

Placement Tests: IVCC placement tests are another option for course placement. Initial testing is free and appointments are required at least 24 hours in advance. The first step to registering for placement testing is to request an IVCC Dual Credit enrollment form from your high school counselor of the IVCC Dual Credit office, dual_credit@ivcc.edu.

Filling out an enrollment form establishes your IVCC K-number and a student ID number, which are required for placement testing. You will also need a photo ID. Tests can be retaken twice in a twelve-month timeframe for a fee.

GPA: IVCC does not use grade point average (GPA) for placement of dual credit students. 

Transitional Coursework: Area high schools offer ICCB-approved coursework in the areas of Math and English that may also allow for students who receive a C or better to register for dual credit coursework or to be used after graduation. Please talk to you high school counselor about what courses are offered that may allow you to register for dual credit.

Individualized Education Plans: Students who had Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans in high school should contact the Center for Accessibility and Neurodiversity office for assistance with going through the placement process. Call 815-224-0634.

* There is a reading prerequisite for English coursework. The ACT English and EBRW SAT and PSAT scores listed satisfy this component. A student must test in both Reading and English if they do not place into English using other placement means.
