Bottom’s on First
A staged reading with a definite aim towards laughter and a bit of silliness! “Bottom’s on First” is a mix tape mashup of wordplay, vaudeville pacing, a wee bit of Shakespeare, Abbot and Costello, and even Shel Silverstein thrown in the mix. An ensemble cast delivers little known Shakespearian insults, some internet trolls, slightly skewed takes on the Bard, and even a pesky referee here and there. Written by new IVCC faculty member Dale J. Young, “Bottom’s” is a reminder that laughter is one of our best tools!

In David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony winning PROOF, Catherine has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father’s. A burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s madness—or genius—will she inherit? During 2020, we used technology to bring entertainment to you! We recorded several shows featuring students and community members: Terror in the Aisles, Cool Yule, and Hooray for Hollywood.
Director and Choreographer Don Grant Zellmer also did live interviews with several theatre notables and supporters of the fine arts: Frank Vlastnic, Alyce Scott, Howard Johnson, Eric Chambliss, and more.
