What is Cybersecurity?
The AAS degree and certificate in cybersecurity provide skills for work in digital security. The program also cross-trains IT to protect employers’ systems from cyber threats. Students will receive hands-on instruction, and use problem-based simulations along with laboratory experiences to prepare students for situations that they will encounter in the workplace.
Multiple Program Options
The two year, 60-credit hour Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree prepares students
for work in cybersecurity by providing hands-on experiences they will encounter in
the field.
The seven-course certificate provides a pathway for students already working in IT
or those with a formal networking certificate or degree.
While in the program, students will be encouraged to earn industry-recognized certifications
such as Security+.
Noteworthy Features of the Program
National and local data demonstrates a desperate need for qualified security specialists
to respond to attacks on consumer information and corporate data. The AAS and certificate
will help close the skills gap for employers.
The certificate will help fill the immediate need while the AAS degree combines marketable
skills in cybersecurity with networking fundamentals and general education. IVCC is
working towards acceptance by four-year institutions for 2+2 and 3+1 transfer options.
Security+, an industry credential, is part of the program.
Affordability
IVCC tuition is just one-third to one-fourth the cost of state universities and far
below most private institutions. An approximation of tuition and fees and cost comparison
can be found on the IVCC website at www.ivcc.edu/payment and at www.ivcc.edu/save.
Many scholarship opportunities are available through the IVCC Foundation at
www.ivcc.edu/foundation and Financial Aid is available for those who qualify at
www.ivcc.edu/financialaid.
